Pakistan Election Aftermath

Musharraf's allies lose big in Pakistan but the Bush administration is still pro-Musharraf. A coalition government of PPP and PML-N is in the offing.

Except for attacks by gun-totters of MQM in Sindh and of PMLQ in other parts of country to stop opposition parties voters from voting and do other types of rigging, there was no other disturbance on the polling day. There being no so-called terrorist attack and so-called suicide bombing on the day, opinion of people in Pakistan is substantiated that all earlier bombings in Pakistan were either engineered by pro-Musharraf forces or by the enemy’s agents.

Pre-poll rigging was done in that postal ballots and ballots of the officials on duty on election day were all cast in favour of pro-Musharraf parties without the voter even getting the ballot papers. Getting to know that pro-Musharraf parties would not get majority, all energies were put together to obtain a hung parliament so that authority remains with Pervez Musharraf. This was achieved by barring opposition voters from voting at some places and stuffing the ballot boxes with not-cast votes at other places.

Now all out effort is being made to press Asif Ali Zardari not to have alliance with Nawaz Sharif and, in stead, form a coalition with PMLQ and MQM and some to-be turn coats. This also is the agenda of Bush administration.

God save Pakistan

The results are not completely unexpected to me. Only those who were in the limelight and had no chance of poll day rigging lost. Some lost because musharraf didnt want them around him anymore.
But all these are speculations at best on my part.

Congratulations to the people of Pakistan! You took a significant step back toward democracy and the rule of law by successfully completing an election. I hope many more will follow on your journey to a stable and just society.
