Debate is an effective tool to impress the audience and can bring mass popularity but an unexpected or weak show on part of the debater can pull him down.

Both candidates performed well. At times, Obama appeared to search for the correct words to express his views while McCain always seemed prepared. This difference, in my opinion, slightly tipped the debate to McCain.

McCains smirks and know it all attitude has to be the most annoying thing about him. Well that and he ALWAYS has to bring up his POW story. I mean seriously…he should just type up his resume and in big bold font 68 say “i was a POW”. I’m hoping the next one is more interesting. This one was pretty blah.

Al-Muhajabah: I agree that a draw is good enough for Obama, but he could have done better. Strangely, he was weaker on the economy section of the debate.

It was McCain who needed to change the momentum in the race, because he is behind. He did not do that, in my opinion.

I find it helpful to think about Clinton in 1992. Clinton did not need to “beat” Bush Sr on foreign policy in the sense of getting higher ratings in a poll question on it. What he needed to do was to be plausible as commander in chief. Once voters were reassured on that point, they could vote for him based on the economy.

Same with Obama. If you were expecting him to land a “knock out blow” on McCain on FOREIGN POLICY, I don’t think that was really realistic, and it also isn’t what Obama needed.
