I think the US is looking for some nasty stuff that it gave to Saddam in the 1980s. The Bush administration is worried since inspectors haven’t found the stuff and nobody destroys WMDs unilaterally and voluntarily.

    Regarding the arming of Iraq, I suggest taking a look at the Wisconsin Project on Nuclear Arms Control’s site, http://www.iraqwatch.org, particularly at http://www.iraqwatch.org/suppliers/whoarmediraq.pdf. The US appears to have been a minor player in this activity. Whatever our long list of sins, this particular one is being overblown.
