Harun Yahya

Continuing my previous post about evolution, I want to just let you know who Harun Yahya is.

HarunYahya is a pen name used by Mr. Adnan Oktar.

Born in Ankara in 1956, Adnan Oktar is a prominent Turkish intellectual. Completely devoted to moral values and dedicated to communicating the sacred values he cherishes to other people, Oktar started his intellectual struggle in 1979 during his education at Mimar Sinan University’s Academy of Fine Arts [emphasis mine — ZA]. During his university years, he carried out detailed research into the prevalent materialistic philosophies and ideologies around him, to the extent of becoming even more knowledgeable about them than their advocates. As a result of his accumulation of knowledge, he has written various books on the fallacy of the theory of evolution. His dedicated intellectual effort against Darwinism and materialism has grown out to be a worldwide phenomenon. Quoting from the 22 April 2000 issue of New Scientist, Mr. Oktar became an “international hero” in communicating the fallacy of the theory of evolution and the fact of creation. The author has also produced various works on Zionist racism and Freemasonry and their negative effects on world history and politics. Besides these, Oktar has written more than a hundred books describing the morals of the Qur’an and faith related issues.

If he was at the Academy of Fine Arts, he wouldn’t have studied Biology or not? Let’s check another source:

The author, who writes under the pen-name HARUN YAHYA, was born in Ankara in 1956. Having completed his primary and secondary education in Ankara, he then studied arts [emphasis mine — ZA] at Istanbul’s Mimar Sinan University and philosophy [emphasis mine — ZA] at Istanbul University. Since the 1980s, the author has published many books on political, faith-related and scientific issues. Harun Yahya is well-known as an author who has written very important works disclosing the imposture of evolutionists, the invalidity of their claims and the dark liaisons between Darwinism and bloody ideologies such as fascism and communism.

Great! An arts and philosophy major debunking evolution! I need to go find a Muslim scientist, specifically a Biologist, who has written on evolution.

  1. Muslim Tolerance and Kafirs

Yasmine of Rambling Monologues has a moving post about the intolerance displayed by some Muslims. You should read her whole post, but here is the conclusion. I write this because I hate the word “kaffir,” and I hate how it…

  2. Hey remember me

Anyway let me start my explanation again.
When one studies a subject, he respects the teachers that he is gaining the knowledge from. I gave you an example of History and that the best historians are those who have learnt from many sources.
    Examine this:
‘Many competent persons and expert historians have erred in regard to such stories and opinions, and have accepted the, without critical examinations…and therefore history has been confused…He who practices this science needs to know the rules of statecraft, the nature of existing things, and the difference between nations, regions and tribes regard to way of life, qualities of character, customs, sects, schools of thought and so on. He must distinguish the similarities between the present and past, and know the various origins of dynasties and communities, the reasons for them coming into existence, the circumstances of the person involved in them, and their history. He must go on until he has complete knowledge of the causes of every event, and then he will examine the information which has been handed down in the light of his principles of explanation. If they are in harmony, this information is sound, otherwise it is spurious.’
Ibn Khaldun, p.28 English trans. Vol. I, pp. 55-6

What can you understand from this passage?
Do you not agree that someone who follows this (passage), his outcome of information will be sound and the one who doesn’t his information will be unauthentic?
When I said study but also from that of an Islamic view I didn’t mean that there is a biology that is exclusive in Islam. I meant that you study from many sources like the passage has mentioned above.
I hope I have made myself clear now. Please tell me if I haven’t

I have written on your topic and again it is long, however I think you said you are open to information. Well with any topic, prejudices have to be removed because if one has just made up his/her mind of an opinion then there is no point of giving any information when that is going to be counteracted with the view that has already been made up.
    Example:
I went to a talk yesterday about Jesus (a). Before the talk had begun the speaker had to mention to the non-Muslims since it was targeted to them that they remove all prejudices and keep a mind open to information otherwise the talk will not be a talk but one of debate.
Have I made myself clear on this point?
From what I see and hope it does not release any temper but I when I read the information that has been said to you I can not help but notice that you have already set your opinion on this topic and for us who give sincere advice there isn’t any point when it will not be accepted.
Now I hope I am proven wrong on this point.

My job is only to convey and it is Allah who guides.
I can not make you believe or convince you, that is all up to yourself.
If you can, read my message again but this time release any prejudices that you may have within you.
    bye

  3. Even evolutionists/atheists who were well known for their views are dumping their own theories – because they know its all lies. Look at what Anthony Flew who has denounced atheism has got to say –
“Biologists’ investigation of DNA has shown, by the almost unbelievable complexity of the arrangements which are needed to produce [life], that intelligence must have been involved.”

“It has become inordinately difficult even to begin to think about constructing a naturalistic theory of the evolution of that first reproducing organism.”

“I have been persuaded that it is simply out of the question that the first living matter evolved out of dead matter and then developed into an extraordinarily complicated creature.”

Atheists/Evolutionists need to wake up and look around and dump their false failing ideology.

  4. Ferdous: Keeping an open mind is good, but can be taken to extremes. For example, should we keep an open mind about the medical skill of a quack? Or how about keeping an open mind about the existence of God? Or keeping an open mind about the laws of motion?

truthseeker: You are making a common error in conflating atheism and evolution.

  5. Zack I don’t really get why you get so mad when people question your faith. Just because we are questioning your faith doesn’t mean you are not a Muslim. Simply because you keep saying that you are a Muslim yet you defend the Evolution Theory which is completely against Islam does not mean that you are a Muslim. Only God knows whether you, me or anyone else here who is saying he or she is a muslim is a true Muslim, because only He knows our hearts. From what I read Zach, you are a confused individual. You just have to pray that God shows you the truth.

    Assalamu Alaikum

  6. Khan: I think you are confused because you can’t stop questioning my faith even though you admit that:

Only God knows whether you, me or anyone else here who is saying he or she is a muslim is a true Muslim.

  7. Is the creation of the world and everything in it the result of human thinking?

    think about it….
man cannot even contemplate the size of the universe which continues to expand.
Man cannot go beyond our solar system
    Man’s mind is so flawed.
No human in this world is perfect. Perfection belongs to God.

Millions of People around the world denounce that they are son of Monkeys.

This Argument you have started is getting out of hand…
Are you going to spend your whole life on this argument… ?
Can’t you just forget about it? It seems to me nobody is winning.
Just get on with your life…
You believe in Allah and the Last day…
    Your reckoning is soon.
Me, you, we don’t know when death will come… and no matter who we are no one can deny the fact that we will die one day… that is one thing that everyone is 110% sure of.

God will bring out our book on the day of Judgment and we will have to read every single thing we had done in this world… Everything that we did will be shown in front of us..
    Doesn’t that scare you..
On that day man will be afraid to read his own book.
God will question us… why we did this and that… it scares me.

Work towards the hereafter because if you divide Life on earth to that of the hereafter which equal infinite your answer will come to zero.
So why are we wasting our time when we know we will be held accountable by God Almighty.
There is no point of us wasting our time… a second goes and we cannot bring it back..
What have we done to protect ourselves form the fire..
Think about it again… not a single grain would be left out without being questioned by Allah.

This is where I leave you…

    Good bye

  8. salam alaykam!

Zack: you say that your a muslim so then you also beleive in the holy quran. Zack you probably know about the people of THAMUD and the story of mose’s very well mentioned in the quran. Now do you remember when the prophet came to the people of thamud and told them to beleive in only one god but they refused and they asked the prophet for a sign. So almight god showed them a miracle by bringing forth a camel from a huge rock right in front of there eyes so this example is a clear sign to us that god just has to say something be and it becomes. so i come to a conclusion that god created mankind just has we are today god deosn,t need the evolution process he just say it be and it becomes also mose’s maricle gives us a sign when he drop the lifeless stick on the ground and god turned it into a serpant there is a good example. the stick didn’t go threw evolution process it turned from lifeless to lifely zack you get the idea right. God give mankind life by just saying be and it become.mankind did not evovle from apes to present shape its a myth that evolutoin brings.
zack you know how the human sperm in the mothers womb turns into complex creature with all kind of abilities i mean it takes know longer then 8 to 9 months that is very shot time. and look what evolution claims MANKIND EVOLVED FROM APES BY MILLIONS OF YEArs. just by losing hairs and little bit change in bones and muscles. zack look at the differences between what im say to what evolution. i mean from human sperm in the womb which is almost nothing we change to complex being in a short period of time. and evolution says we changed from apes e to our modern phisycal looking in millions years

    false!!!! false!!!!!!! false!!!

    just think zack!!!
    heed more zack!!!!
have more insight and understanding zack its clear!!
i hope you get what i mean!!
may god have mercy upon all muslims!!!!!
    islam will previal!!!!!!!
HALLOWED BE GOD!!!! THE GREAT!! ALL HIGH!!!

  9. Woh.. This message has attracted a huge number of answers.. and since I have nt read all them.. it is possible that some might have said what I m saying now..

When a person debates an issue.. tries to prove his point.. makes an effort and writes volumes of books.. sets up a dedicated website and ivites everyone to THINK and discuss.. AND you come across someone saying HEY this guy does nt have the background in such and such fields..

What do you call such an attitude??

Defeatist, Irrational, Irrelevant… comes to mind

    Regards

  10. What about “Science finds God”? They are respectable scientists with their own specialties, don’t you trust them?

  11. Khilafah: I am not just saying that Harun Yahya doesn’t have the educational background, I am pointing out that his works contain some basic misunderstandings of science and the reason for that is probably his lack of scientific education.

sandy: What exactly is “Science finds God”?

  12. How can we peove there is a hereafter

Belief in the hereafter is not based on blind faith?

Many people wonder as to how a person with a scientific and logical temperament, can lend any credence to the belief of life after death. People assume that anyone believing in the hereafter is doing so on the basis of blind belief.

My belief in the hereafter is based on a logical argument.

    2. Hereafter a logical belief

There are more than a thousand verses in the Glorious Qur’an, containing scientific facts (refer my book “Qur’an and Modern Science-Compatible or Incompatible?”). Many facts mentioned in the Qur’an have been discovered in the last few centuries. But science has not advanced to a level where it can confirm every statement of the Qur’an.

Suppose 80% of all that is mentioned in the Qur’an has been proved 100% correct. About the remaining 20%, science makes no categorical statement, since it has not advanced to a level, where it can either prove or disprove these statements. With the limited knowledge that we have, we cannot say for sure whether even a single percentage or a single verse of the Qur’an from this 20% portion is wrong. Thus when 80% of the Qur’an is 100% correct and the remaining 20% is not disproved, logic says that even the 20% portion is correct. The existence of the hereafter, which is mentioned in the Qur’an, falls in the 20% ambiguous portion which my logic says is correct.

    3. Concept of peace and human values is useless without the concept of hereafter

Is robbing a good or an evil act? A normal balanced person would say it is evil. How would a person who does not believe in the hereafter convince a powerful and influential criminal that robbing is evil?

Suppose I am the most powerful and influential criminal in the world. At the same time I am an Intelligent and a logical person. I say that robbing is good because it helps me lead a luxurious life. Thus robbing is good for me.

If anybody can put forward a single logical argument as to why it is evil for me, I will stop immediately. People usually put forward the following arguments:

    a. The person who is robbed will face difficulties

Some may say that the person who is robbed will face difficulties. I certainly agree that it is bad for the person who is robbed. But it is good for me. If I rob a thousand dollars, I can enjoy a good meal at a 5 star restaurant.

    b. Someone may rob you

Some people argue that someday I may be robbed. No one can rob me because I am a very powerful criminal and I have hundreds of bodyguards. I can rob anybody but nobody can rob me. Robbing may be a risky profession for a common man but not for an influential person like me.

    c. The police may arrest you

Some may say, if you rob, you can be arrested by the police. The police cannot arrest me because I have the police on my payroll. I have the ministers on my payroll. I agree that if a common man robs, he will be arrested and it will be bad for him, but I am an extraordinarily influential and powerful criminal.

Give me one logical reason why it is bad for me and I will stop robbing.

    d. Its easy money

Some may say its easy money and not hard-earned money. I agree completely that it is easy money, and that is one of the main reasons why I rob. If a person has the option of earning money the easy as well as the hard way, any logical person would choose the easy way.

    e. It is against humanity

Some may say it is against humanity and that a person should care for other human beings. I counter argue by asking as to who wrote this law called ‘humanity’ and why should I follow it?

This law may be good for the emotional and sentimental people but I am a logical person and I see no benefit in caring for other human beings.

    f. It is a selfish act

Some may say that robbing is being selfish. It is true that robbing is a selfish act; but then why should I not be selfish? It helps me enjoy life.

    1. No logical reason for robbing being an evil act

Hence all arguments that attempt to prove that robbing is an evil act are futile. These arguments may satisfy a common man but not a powerful and influential criminal like me. None of the arguments can be defended on the strength of reason and logic. It is no surprise that there are so many criminals in this world.

Similarly raping, cheating etc. can be justified as good for a person like me and there is no logical argument that can convince me that these things are bad.

    2. A Muslim can convince a powerful and influential criminal

Now let us switch sides. Suppose you are the most powerful and influential criminal in the world, who has the police and the ministers on his payroll. You have army of thugs to protect you. I am a Muslim who will convince you that robbing, raping, cheating, etc. are evil acts.

Even if I put forth the same arguments to prove that robbing is evil the criminal will respond the same way as he did earlier.

I agree that the criminal is being logical and all his arguments are true only when he is the most powerful and influential criminal.

    3. Every human being wants justice

Each and every human being desires justice. Even if he does not want justice for others he wants justice for himself. Some people are intoxicated by power and influence and inflict pain and suffering on others. The same people, however, would surely object if some injustice was done to them. The reason such people become insensitive to the suffering of others is that they worship power and influence. Power and influence, they feel, not only allows them to inflict injustice on others but also prevents others from doing likewise to them.

    4. God is Most Powerful and Just

As a Muslim I would convince the criminal about the existence of Almighty God (refer to answer proving the existence of God). This God is more powerful than you and at the same time is also just. The Glorious Qur’an says:

    “Allah is never unjust
    In the least degree”

    [Al-Qur’an 4:40]

    5. Why does God not punish me?

The criminal, being a logical and scientific person, agrees that God exists, after being presented with scientific facts from the Qur’an. He may argue as to why God, if He is Powerful and Just, does not punish him.

    6. The people who do injustice should be punished

Every person who has suffered injustice, irrespective of financial or social status, almost certainly wants the perpetrator of injustice to be punished. Every normal person would like the robber or the rapist to be taught a lesson. Though a large number of criminals are punished, many even go scot-free. They lead a pleasant, luxurious life, and even enjoy a peaceful existence. If injustice is done to a powerful and influential person, by someone more powerful and more influential than he, even such a person would want that person perpetrators of injustice to be punished.

    7. This life is a test for the hereafter

This life is a test for the hereafter. The Glorious Qur’an says:

    “He who created Death
    And life that He
    May try which of you
    Is best in deed;
    And He is the Exalted
    In Might, Oft-Forgiving”
    [Al-Qur’an 67:2]

    8. Final justice on day of judgement

    The Glorious Qur’an says:

    “Every soul shall have
    A taste of death:
    And only on the Day
    Of Judgement shall you
    Be paid your full recompense.
    Only he who is saved
    Far from the Fire
    And admitted to the Garden
    Will have attained
    The object (of life):
For the life of this world
    Is but goods and chattels
    Of deception.”
    [Al-Qur’an 3:185]

Final justice will be meted out on the Day of Judgement. After a person dies, he will be resurrected on the Day of Judgement along with the rest of mankind. It is possible that a person receives part of his punishment in this world. The final reward and punishment will only be in the hereafter. God Almighty may not punish a robber or a rapist in this world but he will surely be held accountable on the Day of Judgement and will be punished in the hereafter i.e. life after death.

    9. What punishment can the human law give Hitler?

Hitler incinerated six million Jews during his reign of terror. Even if the police had arrested him, what punishment can the human law give Hitler for justice to prevail? The most they can do is to send Hitler to the gas chamber. But that will only be punishment for the killing of one Jew. What about the remaining five million, nine hundred and ninety nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine Jews?

    10. Allah can burn Hitler more than six million times in hellfire

Allah say in the Glorious Qur’an:

    “Those who reject
    Our signs, We shall soon
    Cast into the Fire;
    As often as their skins
    Are roasted through,
    We shall change them
    For fresh skins,
    That they may taste
    The penalty: for Allah
    Is Exalted in Power, Wise”
    [Al-Qur’an 4:56]

If Allah wishes he can incinerate Hitler six million times in the hereafter in the hellfire.

    11. No concept of human values or good and bad without concept of hereafter

It is clear that without convincing a person about the hereafter, i.e. life after death, the concept of human values and the good or evil nature of acts is impossible to prove to any person who is doing injustice especially when he is influential and powerful.

  13. ripa: I am not sure how your extremely long comment was relevant to a discussion of Harun Yahya’s educational credentials for scientific endeavors.

  14. 1) Your comments are totally correct.
    2) Your are a very courageous person.
    3) One day you are going to be accused of apostasy – and you know what that means!
    4) Your valuable site is a revelation concerning the religious pathology of fundamentalist Islam.
    5) Good Luck!

  15. Harun Yahya, whose original name is Adnan Oktar, is not a writer. Those books are not written by him but by his followers. Actually what his followers do are cut and paste articles, solve some jiggsaw puzzles and publish them. He especially choses his followers from the rich people, you can’t find a poor man in his organisation. He does not have the education and intellect to write them, he doesn’t know a foreign language, especially he doesn’t know Arabic but he uses references from the Quran.
Though the danger about this person is not the lack of his knowledge, his secret agenda. He claims that he is the Mahdi (a figure described in the weak and suspicious hadiths) and he is preparing for a golden age leadership. This man is a great danger for the Muslims. He claims he is the mahdi but his acts are as if Deggials. He invites people to Islam but secretly he poisons their mind with thoughts that rejects the fundamentals of Islam and especially the sunnah (He thinks prayer 5 times a day is not obligatory, alcohol is permissible, zina (adultry) is a common practise in his community, they don’t give zakaat(charity) and spend for luxury, headscarf is not an obligatory act…etc.). Beyond that, to get rid-off the obligatory military service in Turkey, he got a mental disability report. Now, how can you trust and believe such a person?
My brothers and sisters in Islam, stay away from these people who calls you to Islam but then poisons you with things out of Islam. Stick to Allah, His messenger, His book and the sunnah of prophet Muhammad(saw)

    Ramadan Kareem

  17. it’s a question.
colud u please give me the details of harun yahya, i mean his background education, family background, his ideologies, his view about islam and his life principles.it’s importatnt for readers to know who is the author, and what is his way of thinking.that’s all.will really appreciate if u can fulfill these.shukran.

  18. hello.i have been reading this debate for a while.and mostly i have not been disappointed.except in zack,of course.while almost every other person has attempted to provide proof of their arguments, all zack has done is to accuse HY of having misinterpretd thermodynamics.i read HY’s criticism of evolution.he employs biological, chemical and physical reasons.that is much more than zack’s fixation on thermodynamics.zack, you accuse him of regurgutating creationist propaganda.but you dont mind doing the same yourself.since this debate commenced, you have been regurgitating the same accusation;that hy is ‘regurgtating….’you are the most prolific contributor in the debate.but not once did you give us any other reason for objecting to HY’s reasoning.
also you are employing double standards.why do you question harun yahya’s lack of scientific background, while accepting wholsale what Darwin has proposed, even though he was not a biologist?
you are also waspish, and wrongly so.while you snap at others for questioning you faith, you take the liberty of questioning their language skills.now, for heaven’s sake, tell us why you reject the bilogical, chemical and mathematical facts that repudiate evolution.and for gods sake dont invoke thermodynamics.we noted it before.

this for eden.your acusations against HY are grave.would you please give us an independent source for your tirade of accusations aginst the man? this is because am wary of mysterious cults that stain my religion.this is a life of debauchery you have described.and no one in his right state of mind can partake of those acts and claim to be a muslim, even nominally.
i would really appreciate objectivity on this issue.

  19. Evolution: Another Viewpoint

Following up on my critique of Muslims not accepting evolution and after finding out that Harun Yahya, one of the opponents of evolutionary theory, is not a scientist, I discovered a lecture by a Saudi geologist (specializing in micropalaeontology) Dr…

  23. Adnan Okhtar has been prosecuted for harrassing and threatening biology academics in Turkey .. he wsa fined $4000 the last time he did it …

He has also spent time in Jail for blackmail and in a Mental institution (Messiah complex is my bet) …

If you sign up for a newsletter at Harunyahya you get deluged with Spam …

He didn’t even get an art degree as far as i can tell .. surely he’d advertise that … an interview with his nother I read once was quite funny … I think he is a dissapointment to her … lol.

he lies all the time on his website .. the funniest I saw was where he tries for credin=bility by showing a page from Science (about Harun Yaha) you can only read one line that says something like … his books are read around the world … if you read the full article … Which i did on the website it is deeply critical of it all …
    He’s a shyster and a con-man … take it from me .. I’m a real scientist …

Not a bitter old failure trying to fool everyone else so he doesn’t feel so damn stupid .

  24. it looks like some people speak with no knowledge about Harun Yahya. Here is the information you should beleive as muslim because someone’s word is the proof for a muslim unless otherwise has been prooven. Since all the cases have been closed for Harun Yahya (Adnan Oktar, writer of almost 300 books, many have been translated to 70 diffrent lenguages), we have to believe what his word is about himself in his webpage. Here it is:

Born in Ankara in 1956, Adnan Oktar writes his books under the pen name of Harun Yahya. Ever since his university years, he has dedicated his life to telling of the existence and oneness of Almighty Allah, and to disseminating the moral values of the Qur’an. He has never wavered in the face of difficulties and despite oppression, still continues this intellectual struggle today exhibiting great patience and determination.

A short biography of Adnan Oktar:

Born in Ankara in 1956, Adnan Oktar lived there through his high school years. During this period, his devotion to Islamic moral values grew even stronger. He deepened his profound knowledge of Islam by reading works of all the great Islamic scholars and decided to tell everyone about Islam’s moral values and summon them to a knowledge of truth and beauty.

To continue his education, he entered Istanbul’s Mimar Sinan University in 1979 coming in third from among thousands of candidates. Oktar, a talented artist since childhood who regards art as a manifestation of Allah’s superior creation, painted surrealist pictures from time to time and gave away a large number of paintings as gifts to friends. In addition, Oktar numbers animals, plants and flowers among his spheres of interest, as well as horticulture, interior design, and décor.

    The Mimar Sinan Years

When Adnan Oktar entered Mimar Sinan University, it was under the influence of various illegal Marxist-communist organizations. Aggressive atheist and materialist trends predominated among students as well as the academic staff. Indeed, some members of the teaching staff would seize every opportunity to propagandize on behalf of materialist philosophy and Darwinism, even though these subjects had nothing to do with the curriculum.

This environment accorded religion and moral values no respect, and rejected them almost entirely. The materialist view predominated. But Adnan Oktar began telling those around him of the existence and oneness of Allah, and was the only person who prayed openly in the Molla Mosque, adjacent to the university.

At night-as his mother, Mediha Oktar, relates-Adnan Oktar would sleep only a few hours and spend the rest of his time reading, taking notes and writing. He read hundreds of works including those dealing with Marxism, Leninism, Maoism, communism and materialist philosophy, and carried out detailed studies of the classics as well as more seldom-read texts. He also performed wide-ranging research into the theory of evolution-the alleged scientific foundation of these ideologies. Oktar collected considerable quantities of documents and detailed information revealing the increasing dilemmas faced by these superstitious philosophies-their quandaries, contradictions and falsehoods, all based on a denial of Allah-and used his accumulated knowledge to invite people to reality and truth. He spoke to everyone, university students and staff alike, about the existence and oneness of Allah and the moral values of the Qur’an. In conversations at the university canteen, and in breaks between classes, he outlined the deceptions of materialism and Darwinism, citing direct quotations from these ideologies’ original texts.

Adnan Oktar attached special importance to refuting the theory of evolution. That was because he saw that ever since Darwinism’s first appearance, it had been subsumed by materialism and atheism. Aware that today, those same circles are still defending Darwinism and striving to keep it alive for ideological reasons, Adnan Oktar believes that eradicating Darwinism will hand those movements a major defeat.

The First Pamphlet to Deal Darwinism a Body Blow

To that end, Adnan Oktar concentrated on proving the invalidity of this deception that for more than a century had turned people away from religious moral values. He realized that since Darwinism advanced itself in the name of science, the most effective means of revealing its true face was through science itself. Based on that viewpoint, he brought out a pamphlet entitled The Theory of Evolution, a summary of his wide-ranging research and study, and personally bore all the printing costs by selling property inherited from his family, and distributed the pamphlet free of charge to other university students.

Using an accessible and comprehensible style, this pamphlet demonstrated that evolution was a deception, with no scientific validity. Many people who read the pamphlet and spoke with Adnan Oktar came to agree that no living thing could come into being by chance, and that Almighty Allah created the universe and all living things in it.

Nonetheless some students in the university, blindly devoted to materialist thought, continued in denial, despite having seen the clear truth. Some militant students openly threatened Oktar, saying his life would be in danger unless he ceased his activities. Yet this only increased Oktar’s determination and devotion to Allah. The harsh reactions and alarm evinced by materialist circles were significant proof that he was on the right path.

In a university in which terror ruled, dominated by atheist and materialist movements, devout individuals were harassed for their beliefs. During those years, while many young people in Turkey were ruthlessly slaughtered because of ideological tensions, Adnan Oktar openly preached the existence and oneness of Allah and of the truth of the Qur’an. In a university where no one had the courage to state his beliefs openly, he continued to pray regularly at the mosque, unwavering in the face of reactions and threats.

Spreading Religious Moral Values at Mimar Sinan University

When Adnan Oktar began communicating Islamic values, he was quite alone. For more than three years nobody at Mimar Sinan University backed up his views, yet that did not alter his determination. Knowing that Allah was his only friend, he did all these things solely to gain His approval.

He devoted all his time, energy and means to a single purpose: earning the good pleasure, mercy and Paradise of Allah, and telling all mankind about religious moral values.

In 1982, the first few students at Mimar Sinan University decided to support Adnan Oktar in his intellectual struggle. As months passed, the numbers of people adopting these ideas rose. Adnan Oktar held conversations with these young people on love of country; the importance of following in the great leader Ataturk’s path; the proofs of creation; the exemplary moral values of our Prophet (saas); the provisions and moral values revealed in the Qur’an by our Lord; and the invalidity of the then-prevailing ideologies of materialism, atheism and Darwinism. From this time onward, Adnan Oktar was a vehicle by which many people came to believe.

The First Smear Campaign and Torture in a Mental Hospital

His intellectual activities opposing materialism and atheism began to elicit reactions from wider circles. Certain groups, alarmed by Adnan Oktar’s nationalist and religious activities, set up a major conspiracy against him. Their plot coincided with the publication of his work Judaism and Freemasonry, which provoked an enormous response.

In the summer of 1986, Adnan Oktar was arrested for having stated, “I am a member of the Turkish nation, and of the community of Ibrahim,” in an interview carried by a newspaper. Again under the influence of the circles mentioned above, misleading reports, false information and slanders about him began appearing in various publications.

Adnan Oktar was first arrested and imprisoned, then transferred to the Bakirkoy Mental Hospital on the grounds of being mentally unhealthy and placed under observation in ward 14A, poorly maintained, filthy, and used to house the most dangerous inmates. Ward 14A could be entered only by passing through a number of locked iron doors, since killings among patients were viewed as nothing out of the ordinary. Adnan Oktar was chained to his bed by his ankles for six weeks and forcibly given drugs blurring consciousness. Young colleagues who managed to visit him witnessed that he had lost none of his determination and enthusiasm. Postgraduate students, nurses and even doctors were prohibited from seeing him, out of concerns that he would turn them to Islamic moral values. Shortly afterwards, his family and relatives were also banned from visiting him, and even telephone calls were forbidden. He was threatened with spending the rest of his life in the hospital unless he abandoned his activities. Certain circles strongly suggested that if he ceased publication of Judaism and Freemasonry, he could immediately be released from hospital and spend the rest of his life in comfort. Financial incentives were also offered if he would hand over all the book’s research materials. But he rejected all these offers, refusing to bow to the threats and pressure that only enhanced his determination.

After Oktar had been detained for 19 months, the Prosecutor’s Office determined there was “no offence in the statements uttered.” He was declared innocent and released.

During this period, Oktar continued his work on revealing that Darwinism is a terrible deception. In 1986 he collected all his research on Darwinism’s true face in the book Living Things and Evolution, which for many years, remained the sole reference showing the scientific invalidity of the theory of evolution .

    The Cocaine Conspiracy

Again in mid-1991, certain circles made uneasy by his cultural activities made him the target of a conspiracy. At the time, he was preparing a most important manuscript on the history of Freemasonry and world-wide Masonic organizations. Police, searching the home he shared with his mother in Istanbul’s Ortakoy district, discovered a packet of cocaine in the very first book they opened-in a library of some 2,000 books!

Adnan Oktar was immediately detained in Izmir where he was together with a few friends, then transferred to the Istanbul Security Directorate, and after 62 hours, was sent to the Forensic Medicine Institution for drug testing. It was announced that Adnan Oktar’s blood showed a high level of a cocaine by-product.

Mr. Oktar’s intellectual struggle was subjected to many smear campaigns. Several times, groundless slanders and accusations led to his being arrested and detained for months, though eventually he was always found innocent. This photograph shows him being led into detention by police.
However, all the evidence submitted later showed that this was nothing more than slander; and that the cocaine allegedly found in Adnan Oktar’s library was part of this conspiracy. Shortly before the arrest, he had felt that secret moves against him were afoot. Leaving his home in Ortakoy he called his mother Mediha Oktar to warn her of a likely plot against him and asked her to clean and search his house with a few other people as witnesses. His mother called her neighbor and janitor, and together they cleaned her son’s home from top to bottom, dusting all the books in his library. Although Adnan Oktar did not return after that cleaning, 16 police officers carrying out the search operation “found” a packet of cocaine among his books as soon as they entered the house. The neighbor and janitor later made a sworn statement, saying jointly that “We cleaned Adnan Oktar’s library together, and there was no such packet there.”

The second phase of the conspiracy-the cocaine by-product in Adnan Oktar’s blood-was refuted by scientific and forensic evidence. Adnan Oktar was kept in the Security Headquarters for 62 hours before the analyses was performed. Scientifically, however, it can be calculated how much cocaine a man has taken and how many hours before by measuring the cocaine by-product in his blood. In Adnan Oktar’s blood, that level was so high that had he taken that much cocaine 62 hours before, it would have killed him. This showed that the cocaine had entered his body much sooner, by being mixed with his food while he was in detention.

This was confirmed by some 30 international forensic medicine institutions, including Scotland Yard. To the file sent to them for examination, all gave a common response: The cocaine had been administered while Adnan Oktar was in detention by being mixed with his food.

Subsequently, the Turkish Forensic Medicine Institution confirmed that the incident was a conspiracy, that the cocaine had been administered during the detention period, and Adnan Oktar was cleared by the court and released.

However, this incident revealed that forces hostile to Adnan Oktar intended to employ all kinds of dirty tricks. These forces, who previously sought to intimidate Adnan Oktar with prison and oppression, were now conspiring against him.

Adnan Oktar’s Work on His Books

After 1991 Adnan Oktar dedicated all his time to writing and spent all his time at home.

Under the pen name of Harun Yahya, he has written hundreds of valuable books. Those that presented scientific refutations of Darwinism provoked particularly strong reactions in the scientific world. The 22 April 2000 issue of New Scientist called Mr. Oktar an “international hero” for communicating the fact of creation over the fallacy of evolution. The author’s intellectual struggle against materialism and Darwinism has often been mentioned in such mainly evolutionist publications as National Geographic, Science, New Scientist and NSCE Reports. The English and German editions of National Geographic’s November, 2004 issue referred to his works concerning the fact of creation, and included the following quotation from The Evolution Deceit: “The theory of evolution is nothing but a deception imposed on us by the dominators of the world system.”

Adnan Oktar’s works have been translated into many languages, including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Urdu, Chinese, Arabic, Albanian, Russian, Serbo-Croat, Uigur, Indonesian, Azeri, Bengali, Bulgarian, Danish, Polish and Malay, and enjoy a world-wide readership in a great many countries, from India to America, Great Britain to Indonesia, from Poland to Bosnia, Spain and Brazil.

Through these books, a great many people have come to appreciate and to grow more deeply in their faith. Everyone who reads and studies his work is affected by this profound difference and benefits from his sincere, wise and easily accessible style. Each book is characterized by proven, definitive facts presented with honest clarity, which nobody can refute-features that doubtlessly stem from a striking wisdom vouchsafed by Allah.

    Adnan Oktar Again Encounters Oppression

Various circles grew alarmed at all of his selfless activity. Unable to rebut Adnan Oktar’s works on an intellectual level, materialist and Masonic circles incited a slander campaign to prevent any scientific work that might undermine the theory of evolution, aiming to neutralize it through slander and imputation.

In November 1999, exactly when reports were circulating that his three-volume work Global Freemasonry, was about to be published, Adnan Oktar came under renewed pressure. The forces that had sought to hinder the spread of religious moral values with smears, plots, false reports and accusations ever since Adnan Oktar first embarked on his intellectual struggle, had again entered the picture.

As a result of their incitement and misinformation, on 12 November, 1999, police raided the homes and workplaces of members of the Science Research Foundation. They found no evidence of criminal activity, and observed no immoral activity. Nonetheless, day after day, the press ran unbelievable falsehoods and mutually contradictory slanders. As a result, Adnan Oktar was remanded to prison for nine months, in the absence of any legal evidence.

During all these trials, he has always constituted a role model maintaining his trust in, and submission to, Allah, recalling that throughout history, believers have all been tested with similar incidents, that every event takes place in a destiny determined by Allah, in a wise and auspicious manner. No matter what may befall them, he has always said that believers must always be moderate, joyfully determined, and submit to Allah’s will.

He has always been forgiving and compassionate towards those who have conspired to blacken his name with irrational and illogical slanders. Acting in the light of the morality revealed by Allah in the verse “Repel the bad with something better” (Surah Fussilat, 34), he was totally cleared by the court of all accusations made against him on 12 November, 1999. He is still actively engaged in his literary activities today, calling on his readers to live by proper moral values.

  25. Hello everybody,

I have read some your thoughts.

let me start by saying this, I believe the existence of god (Allah in my case). I cannot imagine that the world that we live in has no purpose (that is: birth, continuation of life, and death). It must orginate from something. All the matters (animal/ tree/universe/ space… on and on…..)that we see front of us must come from somewhere. I believe that some entity is controlling all matters that we see and the science that governs it. And that entity that created us did not give us brain to understand this fully. I refused to believe that a human brain has capable of undrstading everything that is going on around the world. Because believing that our brain has the capacity to understand everything is plain dumb. Just becasue we dont understand why are these matters behaving this way, does not give us the right to say god does not exist. The world / universe that we see is complex. let me be very clear here, I am not saying that just because we dont have the brain power to understand this, we stop thinking. I encourage everyone to discover the phenomenons that we see before us but at the same time believe in existence of god while you are doing your discoveries. It is Allah who created this. [ I will not go over why I think it is Allah who created this, It is just too complicated to put it into words, I suggest you read other holy books of different religion and then decide ].

  26. “In conversations at the university canteen, and in breaks between classes, he outlined the deceptions of materialism and Darwinism, citing direct quotations from these ideologies’ original texts.”

I guess that Chicago Fatih means “direct MISquotations.”

Most of the quotes HY uses can be found at the quote-mining project at the talkorigins-site. (Or should be there, at least.)

  27. Muslim Occidentalism: McDonald’s and, binge drinking and Goldman Sachs

Western Orientalism and its science of Islamology is a very well-studied and understood phenomenon. Edward Said, above all others, did much to highlight the distorting filters through which some of the most widely read Western scholars of Islam. It continues…

  28. I have never questioned the Darwinian theory except as a child with the initial, “Monkey? I thought it was Adam(a.s.) and Eve(a.s.)?” and then, “Adam(a.s.) is a monkey?” To my child’s mind at that time, that seemed acceptable. I’ve never seen his picture, he could very well be a monkey.

After that I took for granted we came from monkeys and my brain considered it separately from theology and didn’t detect any clash of beliefs. Until I came upon Harun Yahya’s “Evolution Deceit”. The facts presented were all noted to their “well-researched” (reputable names, not that I’ve read any of those scientist’s works) sources and reconciled to the verses in the Quran.

I do not question the Quran. What reading that book did was reinforce the strength of the verses for me, it came to have a very Real value, very Real meaning. And by Real I mean a kind of reality I may not ever comprehend (like the laws of sciences— Who drafted those laws (in DNA codes) and passed those laws (?) and enforces them (?)? It is indeed a great feat). I take it for the simple truth that it is there before me and runs on a well-ordered system and I will not refute it for dubious still-under-research scientific explanations, as doing so is questioning its existence and I can’t deny that.

“68. See ye the water which ye drink?

    69. Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We?

    70. Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks?

    77. That this is indeed a qur’an Most Honourable,

    78. In Book well-guarded,

    79. Which none shall touch but those who are clean:

    80. A Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.

    81. Is it such a Message that ye would hold in light esteem?

    82. And have ye made it your livelihood that ye should declare it false?”

    – Al Waqiah, surah 56

Yes, rain is magnificent and a great miracle. I can’t make that. I know how it works (simple geography) but I don’t know how to make it work. Who made that (and us) was really Great. For myself, I choose to believe the Quran because I really do belive it was written by the Divine Hand, I really doubt any human could have achieved that feat (“To err is human”). To that end, I choose to believe whatever is in harmony with the Revelation be it any “scientific works” by qualified biologers or not, it is undeniably written by a mortal hand, an opinion of another person more or less no better than me.

  29. Might I add that whether a person is qualified to opine on something is a matter of his/her credentials. Well, credentials themselves are an opinion of an institution saying that “yes, you have mastered that knowledge and you can comment on that” bestowed upon someone.

Then you find yourself examining all the subjective factors like who exactly determines on behalf of the institution and what was the basis of his foundation to grace a person with that kind of power. Then the subjective “mastered” a certain field; precisely how much is considered mastery and therefore qualified? Very subjective.

For myself, the nearest perfect man will have to be the Prophet (s.a.w.) and he was a shepherd by profession before his Divine quest (and then he was merchant/politican/family man/de facto ruler/military general of the arabian peninsula at one point); and on that basis any person to be termed as “qualified” will be in relation to that and not necessarily credentials (although I do look up credentials of someone opining before giving value to it).

  30. Peace be upon all of u. Ive been readin this blog and think its kinda intersting.Im not a biologist nor studyin it but think the evolution theory does applies to some beings (plants/animals) but does not apply to humans. If we really were from apes/monkeys, then what were Adam(AS) and Eve then?

  31. U said that the theory of evolution is not contradicting christianity or judaism. U might forgot that in the bible, the first man adam was made by God, Allah. Otherwise, you don;t believe in the bible. Hence u’r a certified atheist, rather disbeliever.

  32. I am, however, a biology/science graduate. And a Muslim. have any of you actually read ‘Origin of Species’? many sub-theories and conclusions have been formed by Darwin, and other scientists after him, based on his groundbreaking observations. The possibility that some of those conclusions may be erroneous does not invalidate his observations and basic ideas on evolution (micro-evolution has been directly observed, by the way), which are scientifically good. This form the basis of our present (modern) understanding of ecology, biology, animal breeding and husbandry technology, viral and medicinal breakthroughs, DNA discoveries and so on, even in support of theories of geology and continental drift. Clearly the basic ideas are sound; otherwise they wouldn’t have held in so many disparate fields, when applied, for so long. The controversy surfaces when the theory of evolution is extrapolated to the beginning of all life, and when man is included in it. Therein is the ambiguity, due to its geological time spans, and associated uncertainty. But the fact that the Earth is more than 6000 years old is a fact. And evolution happens is a fact. The only thing that is uncertain is if it was the key to all life’s formation, and if so, how. Plus, some of Darwin’s conclusions were already shown to be wrong – by other scientists even before harun yahya. some other scientists disagree with darwinist scientists on other conclusions, but really, it’s not ‘disproving’ just yet, since it isn’t conclusive either way, scientifically (i.e. with empirical observation and experimentation). a bit like how much astrophysics can still swing in favour of one of the many competing theories and none.

On paper qualifications and whatnot. Clearly if someone is intelligent enough to learn the discipline of scientific method, a person can master it outside of a university. However, you can’t just say any tom, dick and harry could somehow claim to be a scientific expert without showing any evidence for it. i personally do not see a strong grasp of an understanding of the scientific method, which is an exact discipline of thinking, in the works of harun yahya, and that is why i do not think he is qualified to talk about science. it is almost like science – it is pseudo-science. he does not seem to me to have bothered to learn what science is built of, to supplement his expertise in philosophy and metaphysics. and that is a shame. we, after all, do not accept any tom, dick and harry to interpret the Quran and hadith and spout religious rulings. and we don’t allow any tom, dick and harry to cut us open and perform open heart surgery, do we? so please, people, use your minds, and don’t borrow other people’s, especially if you don’t even know if it’s better than your own or not.

For a believer, one believes that God made the universe. But He didn’t say how. plus, in the Quran He told us to try and find out. this command drove scientific method and discovery in our own Muslim civilisation. sure, sometimes in science we may discover things that at first looks like it invalidates what is in the Quran, but the answer to that is not to aim science at proving the Quran! that is backwards and detrimental to discovery. the answer to that is to be humble, and continue seeking and learning. if God indeed is Master of the Universe, nothing we find out can possibly threathen His position. and if we have faith, our humility will keep us from turning from Him. why do you think the learned are valued highly by God in the Quran? the learned are tested in their faith by what they learn, and it is not an easy test, which is what we can see even in the golden age of islam, when the foremost of muslim scientists in their writings sometimes veered close to doubt. but so what? we already know this, because God told us so, that the believers will be tested. did you think this is only a test about being persecuted by non-muslims and about war? certainly not!

please acquire an understanding of scientific method before being so certain of everything and relying so much on harun yahya. if you don’t yourself have the knowledge to evaluate these opinions yourself, please find a source that does. a key feature of scientific thought is similar to the way of thinking of our own early jurisprudential imams – that one is always critical of a theory, even one’s own. that the other guy, provided he also is trained in the discipline, could have the right idea. the moment an author, like harun yahya or some darwinist scientists, is only critical of other people’s theory but not their own alternative, be wary.

  33. zack, may god lead u to faith.

zack give it up man. say allah akbar and say la ilah ila allah mohamad rasul allah

  34. Well, I am a doctor doing training at at Aga Khan University in Surgery and thus have evolved into a more noble being than the Tom Dick and Harry I believe God has destined them to be that way and ultimately its all His blessings if we qualify to serve others or many would say rob others in a more noble manner.
To become a doctor one has to read hell lot of biology ranging from cellular mitochondrial electron transport chain to the intricate neuronal complexes of our brain and to the viscera of our abdomen and have to stick our fingers at places where no one is allowed to. Practically the evolution theory does explain a lot of similarities in the anatomy of different multicellular organisms of the animal kingdom and also explains the similarities in the basic structure of all the organs of different phyla members but that is just it. Many a times people start arguing on it as if it is so fundamental to scientific knowledge as the ten commandments to the human social values.
Mutations play a very important role in spontaneous abortions of babies,it is against so many odds that a baby comes into world healthy with full reflexes and without anygenetic or chromosomal abnormality. It is like Murphy’s Law, any thing can go wrong at any stage from sperm union to the delvery and even afterwards. I can never be so thankful to God for blessing me with a neice healthy and bonnie as she is after so many tests to investigate any indication of a mutation and post natally she was in aseptic conditions did not pick up a virus that could evade her immune system. Its against so many odds because for every living baby in Pakistan so many others are dying to septic practices, respiratory infections and diarrhea and lack of oxygen immediately after delivery that one wondes how we are so populous inspite of all this. The point is that one should always thak God that we or our loved ones are not one of those , u may call it natural selection, i will just call it one another reason to be thakful to God.
As a surgeon ultimately all boils down to life and death and with so many uncertainties in the modern day world I always thank God after reaching the sleeping room to have saved my life among all the traffic after having treated so many people for Road Traffic Accidents.
People don’t give a damn to Evolution when they know they are undergoing a procedure that involves a risk to their life no matter how minute that might be, and then postoperatively many a times completely stable patients go unresponsive and leave the world in so manny different scenarios that I always thank God that He saved the patient’s life if he survived though surgeons usually are notorious for putting their misadventures and failures onto God.
Many a times walking to my flat I come across many people lying on the road in freezing night with just one cloth on them, I wonder what would they say when asked about evolution , may be hey would say they will believe it if given shelter or they will disbelieve it if given food. How irrelevant Evolution becomes at this stage. I would like a social justice system where every newborn can be given chance to live and people get food and shelter, then may be it would be good to argue about evolution. I think this one point would be agreed by both adnan and zak. Martin Luther also wanted social justice.
On a lighter note Evolution movie starring David duchovny is a good watch.

  35. Hi Zack,
…came across your blog while searching for big bang; some heated dialogs you have going on here. To me it is not enough just to say thank you and be grateful to God. You have to have strong sense of believe & show practical aspects of it too on constant basis. And pls don’t think that all of those suffering is miserable. I know doctors need to have big empathy and all. We think that way because we see them that way. Have you try and ask your patient how they feel? Some might surprise you with their answer. It is just in this world that they suffer, ‘life’ would be different in the hereafter. Provided that you have such conviction in the first place! See, one thing a Muslim cannot do -separate religion from any aspect of his or her life. Only you know how you can or cannot appreciate this statement. Cheers!

    Chapter 21: Al-Anbiyya’
    104. The Day that We roll up the heavens like a scroll rolled up for books (completed),- even as We produced the first creation, so shall We produce a new one: a promise We have undertaken: truly shall We fulfil it.

    105. Before this We wrote in the Psalms, after the Message (given to Moses): My servants the righteous, shall inherit the earth.”

    106. Verily in this (Qur’an) is a Message for people who would (truly) worship Allah.

  36. Why is that no one has yet provided a refutation to Harun Yahya’s works? Surely by doing so one would not only win the $8.3 million dollars up for grabs but also put straight the beliefs of millions of people that believe in his work.

  37. Ann: I have no idea how your comment is relevant to the discussion at hand.

Abdul: Which $8.3 million dollars? Lots of people have refuted Harun Yahya and the creationists.

  38. I seem, as a Christian, to have strayed onto this site by accident but it has proven very revealing and interesting and not a little alarming on occasion!
It may interest you to know there is a lot of very useful material on Creationism from various Christain scholars, academics and scientists.
On Intelligent Design, I recommend Prof Werner Gitt of Germany.
Of course as Christians we study the whole subject bearing in mind the vital truth that God is both Creator AND Re-Creator, the Sovereign Lord and Saviour. We can never be saved – found acceptable to an All Holy God- through our own personal righteousness, simply because we are born in sin and shapen in iniquity and ever fall short of the glory due to God. Salvation and eternal life and felicity are all of grace through the sole righteosness of Christ alone covering us in His mercy. Depending on our own self righteousness will simply drive us to despair or futile and destructive fanaticism of one sort or another and in the end lowers in our perception the standard of holiness we think will make us acceptable to God.

  40. upon reading this, nothing more left to say..we humans have lots of weaknesses and somehow uncertainties..if the thougts are not controlled with the guide of AL-QURAN..then the thoughts will be easily gone wild and try to question irrelevant things or make up things just to find self-fulfilment and self-satisfaction which in the end, comes to no end..because humans would take anything around them with their own understanding influenced by their own respective experience or views..that clearly..are weakkkkk!!! source..and keep arguing over things but mouth just can’t stop when each one of us wants to win..THE AL-QURAN is the ultimate source and GOD wins.no matter whatever accusations made..god knows..if it’s plain simple truth,,,why can’t people just cannot accept it??so…stubborn heart..
JUST BE MODERATE..DON’T HAVE to be radical.

  41. Adnan Oktar doesn’t know a thing about evolution. He merely attacks what he erroneously thinks is evolution.
Oktar is a textbook case of idiocy, and anyone who follows him is either ignorant or stupid.
There are plenty of good books on real evolution by real scientists, so reading Oktar is a sure fire way of wasting your time.

  42. I couldnt have time to read through all comments but just wanted to add my voice to those who think that Harun Yahya is a fabricator with good imagination and one of the most annoying bigots talking in the name of my religion.. It is really embarrassing that someone like him can be so famous in our Islamic world… akh

    Salam
