We watched a lot of movies recently. All of these movies are pretty good.

21 Grams is Director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s second movie. His first, Amores perros, has been on my to-watch list for quite some time even though I haven’t gotten around to watching it yet. 21 Grams is good with a non-linear timeline which does seem a bit forced at times.

We liked The Human Stain much more than most reviews or viewer ratings. Both Anthony Hopkins and Nicole Kidman are good, though their casting is questionable. Based on the physical requirements of his character, Anthony Hopkins should not have been cast in this role. Kidman is too classy and beautiful to be believable as a janitor.

Love Actually is definitely a chick movie. Guys, take your wives or girlfriends. It is a light, romantic movie with a large cast and a number of subplots about love. It takes a dig at the American President (played by Billy Bob Thornton) and Tony Blair.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World was a great movie technically. The climactic plot twist however was not very believable. Also, the movie would have been much more authentic if the language was closer to what sailors actually speak. I haven’t heard such polite sailors ever. I guess it was because of the movie-makers’ desire to get a PG-13 rating.

Mystic River is probably the best movie of this lot. Highly recommended.

The Station Agent is a nice indie movie which is in limited release. It’s definitely worth watching but the movie seemed to end a bit abruptly.

  1. Thanks for the recommendations, Zack. I’ll maybe look into them during winter break, when I’ll have more time.
Meanwhile, a friend is trying to bribe me to go see “Love Actually” in theaters with her. Billy Bob Thornton as the president? Okay, perhaps I should go see this after all.

  2. yasmine: Go watch some movies during finals. They are good as study aids. 🙂

Billy Bob Thornton only has a couple of minutes in the movie. Take the bribe and go watch it.
