Double Standards

Yes I believe in them! Not exactly, though I do hold democracies to a higher standard. So you might find me writing a few paragraphs criticizing some small aspect of policy of the US, EU or Israel while sort of glossing over big problems in Iraq or North Korea and you might yell “prejudice” or… Continue reading Double Standards

Past or the Future

One final comment about the Arab-Israeli conflict before I get back to work: There is definitely a need to understand the conflict and its history. However, the Israelis and Palestinians need to understand not just the history from their side’s point of view but the opposing side’s as well. Although history is important, the solution… Continue reading Past or the Future

Jewish Settlers and Israeli Arabs as obstacle to Peace

The Arab-Israel Conflict

I recently finished reading the book Righteous Victims: A History of the Zionist-Arab Conflict, 1881-2001 by Benny Morris. Benny Morris gives a very balanced and nuanced account of the conflict.… Continue reading The Arab-Israel Conflict

I started this blog in June but other than some test posts and venting for my camera troubles, I didn’t write anything until this week. I hope to update… Continue reading Welcome

My First Link

Thanks to Bill Allison of Ideofact for linking to me. He is very kind and is trying to motivate me to write about Pakistan. However, this being close to the end of the semester, I should better do some work. Hopefully, I’ll get to the topic in the next couple of weeks. Or earlier if… Continue reading My First Link

Pakistan Army’s Long Tentacles

Washington Post has an article on the perks the military in Pakistan enjoys as a result of its hold on power for 27 of the last 55 years. Here is an excerpt: There is no denying the military’s dominant role in Pakistan. The military owns the best farmland and several of the largest industrial conglomerates.… Continue reading Pakistan Army’s Long Tentacles
